Roskilde is a city in Denmark and lies on the island Zealand.

Roskilde is internationally known primarily because of the annual event that takes place here Roskilde Festival, to which up to 120,000 visitors arrive.

Roskilde Domkirke

The city has a long history. It was founded in 998. Until 1443 it was also the capital of Denmark. Before the Danish Reformation in 1536, the city was the seat of the Catholic bishops of Zealand. In 1658 the Peace of Roskilde closed. Roskilde has also been a university town since 1972.
