background

The municipality of Rottendorf in Lower Franconia (Bavaria) extends over an area of almost 15 square kilometers and is divided into the three districts of Rothof, Rottendorf and Wöllriederhof. Today Rottendorf has around 5,300 inhabitants in the Würzburg region, which was first mentioned in a document around 1025. The current name Rottendorf developed from the medieval Roten- or Rodendorf, which was part of the Würzburg Monastery, which was part of the Franconian Empire. Since 1814 Rottendorf has finally belonged to the Free State of Bavaria, in the north-west of which the municipality is located.

In 1962 Rottendorf received its own four-color coat of arms. Its three silver tips symbolize the Franconian rake, the traditional coat of arms of Franconia. Since 1987 there has been between Rottendorf and the community with almost 3,700 inhabitants Troarn a town twinning in north-western France. Troarn is located in the Lower Normandy region in the arrondissement of Caen.
