Runaway Bay is a city in Jamaica.
background
Legend has it that this sleepy place owes its name to the last Spanish island commander, Cristobal Ysassi, who fled the island from the English invasion army there in 1655. Until the early 1960s there was only the Cardiff Hall plantation here. There was cattle breeding and coconut plantations. First a golf course was laid out, then luxurious villa plots were built by the sea. There are now several hotels.
The district is 2 km east of Runaway Bay Salem. A fishing village with a privately operated beach. The Paradise Beach has changing rooms and a small snack bar.
8 km to the west Discovery Bay. This name was only given in 1947 in order to gain more tourist interest. Today's development is largely due to the bauxite industry. The enterprise St. Ann Jamaica Bauxite Partners, formerly Emperor Bauxite, has its headquarters in Discovery Bay. Columbus Park, the public beach Puerto Seco Beach and the loading facilities of Port Rhodes would not have been created without this company.
Columbus Park is a small open-air museum. Since the end of 1988, the coast guard station, responsible for the north coast of the island, has been on the other side of the bay.

Discovery Bay and Runnaway Bay are two adjacent towns on the north coast. It is 8 km from one town center to the other. There are 72 kilometers of road between Montego Bay and Discovery Bay. Runaway Bay to Ocho Rios is 17 miles.

- Cardiff Hall Great House. Owned by the Blagrove family from 1655 to 1950. The current plantation house was planned and built in 1789 by the Scottish architect John Forsythe. It replaced a similar building that had been built by the slaves. The current building is somewhat reminiscent of the Renaissance style. As it is still privately owned, it is unfortunately not open to the public.
- Green Grotto Cave. About 7 kilometers west of Runaway Bay are the Green Grotto Caves with stalactites and two underground lakes.Price: 20 USD.
