The Nahanni National Park Reserve protects part of the Mackenzie Mountains region and is crossed by the South Nahanni River which is bordered by four large canyons. At Virginia Falls, this river plunges from a height of 90 m, twice the height of Niagara Falls. The park includes sulphurous hot springs, tundra, mountain ranges, fir and aspen forests as well as many species of birds, fish and mammals.
The park has an information center at Fort Simpson. The latter offers historical, cultural and geographical information on the park.
