Saint-Georges-de-Didonne is a city of Charente Maritime, in the South West of France.

Understand

Seaside resort and important residential suburb of the agglomeration of Royan, this city of 5,086 inhabitants sees its population multiplied by ten during the summer period. Coiled near the mouth of the Gironde estuary, it extends into the hollow of a bay at the bottom of which is the largest intramural beach in the department, along 3,5 km and completely covered with fine sand.

Long shadowed by its famous neighbor, Saint-Georges-de-Didonne is associated with the name of Jules Michelet, who wrote "La Mer" there. It welcomes many celebrities from the world of arts and letters, politics and even crowned heads like the King of Spain Alfonso XIII during the XXe century, and is now a seaside resort with a more family vocation.
