Saint-Porchaire is a city of Charente Maritime, in the South West of France.

Understand

This modest village of just over 1,500 inhabitants was popularized by the writer Pierre Loti, who regularly came to relax in the town where his sister lived. The Château de la Roche-Courbon, which he largely helped to save from ruin, is one of the most visited and most famous in the region.

The city center also retains a 12th century churche century and a Napoleonic bridge crossing the Thorn, one of the two main rivers crossing the town. A small public garden has been set up nearby.
