Saint Savin is a french Small town in the department Vienne. It is particularly relevant because of its Romanesque abbey church with valuable medieval wall paintings, which is a UNESCO World Heritage Site.

Saint-Savin belongs to the arrondissement of Montmorillon and is the capital of the canton of Saint-Savin.

The city lies on the Gartempe River. Here the Vieux Pont crosses the river, and its breakwater shows that the river does not always flow peacefully.

Saint-Savin has no rail connection. You have to be in Poitiers or Chateauroux change to the bus. The fastest connection from Paris by train and bus takes 2:20 hours; from Bordeaux 2:40 hours (each time TGV to Poitiers, then bus).

Regional trains on the Poitiers – Le Dorat line also stop at Montmorillon Station, 20 km away.

By bus

"Regionalexpress" buses (Car TER) of the French state railway SNCF run three times a day from Poitiers to Saint-Savin (journey time 45 minutes); from Châteauroux twice a day (1:25 hours).

In the street

Saint-Savin is located on the well-developed D951 between Poitiers and Châteauroux. The D 5 from Montmorillon and Angles-sur-l'Anglin runs through the neighboring town of Saint-Germain (on the other side of the river). It is 43 km from Poitiers and takes around 50 minutes to drive (follow signs for Châteauroux / Chauvigny).

Coming from Paris and Orléans, take the A71 / A20 towards Toulouse to the junction Poitiers / St-Gaultier, then via the D951 to Saint-Savin.
