Sainte-Rose (creole: Sentwòz) is a community in Guadeloupe.

background

This pretty fishing village is 20 km from Pointe-a-Pitre. The place has two ports. The cargo port is 1.5 hectares with a quay area of 200 m. The fishing port is located in the district of Morne Rouge with an 80 m jetty. A number of traditional restaurants can be found along the waterfront, Boulevard Saint Charles.

It is divided into 18 sections, corresponding to the large sugar cane plantations that existed in the past. The place had three illustrious residents. 1772 lived there the Prime Minister of the island, member of the l`Académie Francais, Francois Nicolas-Vincent Campenon; From 1808 to 1871 the medical professor Daniel Beauperthuy and from 1815 to 1859 the poet Privat d`Anglemont.

The Rum Museum is located at the entrance to the village. There, on the upper floor, you will also find a butterfly collection. The market square can be reached via the long harbor promenade. The center was almost entirely rebuilt and consists of a series of ultra-modern buildings around the central square.

From the heights of Sofaia and Monplaisir in the southwest there is a beautiful view. There are sulfur springs there and a sulfur spa nearby. On the road from Sainte-Rose to Lamentin you come to the Domaine de Séverin distillery, which can be visited.
