the Circus of Salazie is one of the three circuses of the island of The meeting. Oriented to the east, it is the one that receives the most abundant precipitation. It is a must-see destination if you love lush rainforests or dizzying waterfalls. The village of Hell-Bourg, ranked among the most beautiful villages in France, is particularly renowned for its Creole huts typical of Reunion. As in the other cirques, you will find in Salazie many hikes for all levels.
Understand
The Cirque de Salazie, whose entrance is placed "upwind" that is to say due east, is the greenest region thanks to the spray which comes from the ocean. Access to the various villages or islets is very easy by road from Saint-André.
The main villages are Salazie (the capital), Hell-Bourg (flowery village) and Grand-Ilet.

It is one of the most spectacular sites on the island. The walls on the east side are carpeted with very green vegetation from which descend a multitude of waterfalls. You can access the site from Salazie by crossing the river by a suspended footbridge, to arrive along the fields of watercress and scrunchies. For the beauty of the ride, it is recommended to sneak through the vegetation and go to the foot of the waterfalls for an unforgettable and refreshing picnic.
Hell-Bourg
Since 1 Hell-Bourg long routes lead you to the "Trou de Fer" or "Piton des Neiges". But closer sites are also accessible such as "Les Trois Cascades" which is done in 2 h - 3 h, round trip, without difficulty ... but with good shoes all the same.
Grand-Ilet
The starting point of a small winding road which leads to the "Col de la Fourche". There, a car park allows you to leave your vehicle and then take a marked path (GR1) which goes down to the site of Mafate through the tamarind forest.
