According to official data from 2007, El Salvador had over 60 cities with a population of over 10,000. residents. The capital of the country, San Salvador, was the only city with over 300,000 inhabitants. residents; 8 cities with a population of 100,000 ÷ 300,000; 7 cities with a population of 50,000 ÷ 100,000; 14 cities with a population of 25,000 ÷ 50,000 and the rest of the cities below 25,000 residents.

El Salvador is one of the most densely populated countries in Latin America (308 inhabitants / km²) and, although the urban population is only 44% of the country's population, it has the most cities of more than 100,000 inhabitants in continental Central America (excluding Mexico). The largest population is concentrated in the central part of the country in the San Salvador agglomeration, where, next to the capital of the country, there are large cities such as Soyapango, Mejicanos, Apopa, Delgado and San Marcos. The other two large urban centers of Santa Ana and San Miguel are the main economic centers of western and eastern El Salvador, respectively.
