San jose, often described as "The Capital of Silicon Valley", is the largest city in the region of san francisco bay, the third largest city in California, and the tenth largest city in United States. It was voted the fourth safest city in the United States in 2008-2009.

By bus

Most intercity bus lines to San Jose operate between the SF Bay Area and the Los Angeles metro area with some south to San Ysidro and Tijuana. With the exception of Greyhound, Amtrak & CalTrain, the other bus lines do not sell individual tickets to go just north to San Francisco and Oakland (or vice versa). All northbound buses continue to San Francisco and Oakland only drop off when southbound buses just pick up in the SF Bay area.

The central bus depot for VTA (bus and light rail), Greyhound, Megasbus, BoltBus, Santa Cruz Metro and Monterey Salinas Transit is located at Diridon Station, located at 65 Calhill Street, west of downtown . Long-distance buses have stops at Crandall and Stover, through Callhill St, in front of the Diridon station building, while the VTA transit hub is next to the Diridon station building, at North. Other long distance bus carriers such as Intercalifornias, Hoang Express & Tufesa pick up and drop off passengers at different locations; see below:
