San Juan Chamula is a community inhabited by Tzotzil Indians in Chiapas.
background
About 55,000 live in San Juan Chamula TzotzilesIn the center there are only a few houses and an old Catholic church. The Roman Catholic clergy are unlikely to like the worship services that are held there: offerings are regularly made, in the form of candles, of course. But it can also be a bottle Posh be, or sometimes a living chicken that has to die in the course of the service.
Although the Indians still live more or less on a pre-Columbian level in their world of gods, they recognize a modern camera immediately and know how to delete a picture or remove the film: Photographing dignitaries, worship or people is always forbidden it is not expressly allowed. Some allow it, but you can never know in advance.
