San Luis Potosí (city) is the capital of the state San Luis Potosí in the central Mexico. It has about a million inhabitants.
background
The city was named for its silver mines in colonial times. Hence the name given by the formerly most important city in America, Potosí in Bolivia, originates. Today mining has almost come to a standstill. The historic center of the city was built as part of the Camino Real de Tierra Adentro included in the UNESCO World Heritage Site.
