trips

Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument
  • Kasha-Katuwe Tent Rocks National Monument, Indian Service Route 92 (from I-25 via Route 16 and then Route 22; in Cochiti turn right on IS Route 92 and drive 20 minutes into the mountains.). A good hour west of Santa Fe is this piece of landscape with spectacularly eroded rock formations. The parking lot is followed by a 5 km long trail, which is extremely rewarding and leads partly through a slot canyon in the upper area.
  • Arnold Friedman House (Fir Tree House), Highway 63, Pecos (Geocoordinates: 35.632518, -105.680598). Wrightophiles (= fans of the architect Frank Lloyd Wright) will find the only building their guru designed in New Mexico 45 minutes east of Santa Fe. The house, built in 1948 for Arnold Friedman, has a floor plan based on 60-degree angles and a remarkable living room up to 8½ meters high. Privately owned and unfortunately not open to the public.
