Santa Fe is a town in the mountains in Panama.

background

Santa Fé is across a paved road from Santiago de Veraguas easily accessible from (54 km north). A road to Calovébora on the Caribbean coast is under construction.

Santa Fé is located in the mountains near the continental divide and is pleasantly cool. As a place Santa Fé has little to offer, most of the residents live in a large area. The center near the bus station offers a few shops, simple restaurants and accommodation. In contrast to Boquete it is still tranquil here. The landscape with steep hills, rivers, agriculture and forests is the real attraction. To the north, the jungle begins after a few kilometers.

getting there

By bus

Buses run from Santiago de Veraguas via San Francisco every half hour between about 5 a.m. and 7 p.m. It takes a little over an hour.

In the street

By car you have to turn north from the Panamericana in Santiago at an overpass. You can stop in a cheese dairy with a café and enjoy the view.

mobility

Many places can be reached on foot on the often asphalted streets, and on some of them there are shared taxis several times a day. The accommodations offer or arrange guides, some with off-road vehicles.

Tourist Attractions

  • The local mountain Cerro Tute can be climbed as a day hike.
  • The panoramic mountain El Alto can be reached via an asphalt road.
  • Cool, often misty walks through the forest to the Alto de Piedra-Waterfalls can be started near the top of the pass about 10 km in the direction of Calovébora. The beginning of the path shortly after a simple excursion bar is not easy to find, the residents of the nearby houses are happy to show the way.
  • Another waterfall Bermejo is north of Santa Fé.
  • Orchid gardens are another Santa Fé attraction.

activities

  • There are bathing spots almost everywhere thanks to the many rivers. The accommodations provide information and often have small plans. The nearest places can be reached on small roads 2 km north and east of the village.

shop

A coffee cooperative produces the very good one El Tute-Coffee, it is also available in local supermarkets. There is no gas station, no bank and no ATM.

kitchen

Simple and inexpensive dishes are available in 5 family-run fondas in the center and 4 restaurants. The Hotel Anachoreo offers something very unusual: delicious Cambodian food.
