Schoelcher is a city in Martinique.

The city of Fort-de-France has expanded to such an extent that the transition to the old villa suburb of Case-Navire is no longer noticeable. Until 1888 this parish was part of the Case-Pilote district. Since then this district has been called Schœlcher and has become an independent municipality. There are the buildings of the tax and customs authorities, the hotel management school, the university “Université des Antilles et de la Guyane” and a Benedictine monastery far above on the mountainside.

beaches

  • Plage de Batelière. Hotel beach with clear water, protected by a stone pier.
  • Plage de Madiana. It is closest to the city center and is therefore very popular. There is a watchtower there so that families can swim safely.
  • Plage du Bourg, in the city center. Accessible both by car and on foot. The beach is right on the Esplanade des Arawaks. This is a wide green area with a basketball and volley ball area, paths for in-line skaters and cyclists. From the pontoon you can experience beautiful sunsets.
  • Plage de l’Anse Madame. Beach with good water quality. There is the water sports center Cercle Nautique de Schoelcher (CNS), where you can rent sailing, surfing or kayaks. There is also an area for water aerobics.
  • Plage de l’Anse Collat ​​(Lido). This is the northernmost stretch of beach, about 1 km from the center. The parking lot is only 50 m from the beach.
