security

In Serbia, security is guaranteed by the police. Most police officers do not speak English, which can make communication between tourists and police officers problematic. If an incident should occur, dial 192 as the number or contact your respective embassy in Belgrade. Because of frequent shootings or murders, it is not advisable to stay in the Sandzak area (southern Serbia). You should avoid driving through Serbia at night, as most of the streets are not lit or the asphalt is in a desolate condition. It is important to always have your travel documents with you.

health

If you are in cities, doctors are usually available. In the countryside, you may not be able to find a doctor within a 50 km radius. Treatment continues to depend heavily on finances. respect

As a tourist you should maintain respect for other people. If an elderly person or a pregnant woman speaks to you on the bus, it usually means whether you would be nice enough to stand up.

Respect plays a big role in Serbian culture. Above all, Orthodox churches and monasteries should be honored. Entry can be refused with shorts or strapless T-shirts. Serbs greet each other with 3 kisses. The first time you often shake hands, but as soon as they meet someone for the second time, there are kisses.

The family is of central importance and is more respected than ours. Parents have a great influence on their children, even in adulthood. It is not uncommon to live at home until you get married.

You should never turn down an invitation to dinner or a party such as a baptism or wedding. This is a great experience and can be a lot of fun.

Post and Telecommunications

For calls abroad, as is customary internationally, the 00 and then the country code (Germany: 49) must be preselected.

Serbia has three cellular networks (mts, Telenor and Vip Mobile) which all operate nationwide cellular networks based on GSM / UMTS and LTE. The coverage of all three providers is extraordinarily good in a global comparison, with Telenor having the best coverage with a population coverage of 99% with 3G / UMTS up to 42Mbit / s and 95% 4G / LTE up to 150Mbit / s.

Prepaid cards are easily available in shops, but also at petrol stations and in small shops and cost the equivalent of around € 5 with plenty of 4G data volume. Additional data packages can be booked for about 10 € / 10GB WITH 4G.
