Sheffield is a city in South Yorkshire.

background

Sheffield has been a center of the steel industry for centuries. Many technical improvements to steel production were developed in Sheffield. For example, stainless steel was developed here in 1912.

Sheffield is also known for the manufacture of cutlery. His reputation in this area in the English-speaking area is comparable to that of Solingen in the German-speaking area.

The crisis in the steel industry led to high unemployment, as shown in the film "The Full Monty" (German: all or nothing). Sheffield is not only an industrial city, but also a service center and the location of two universities. Therefore, it recovers better from the crisis than pure industrial cities.
