Story
To go
From Montenegro, minibus or taxi (between 8-13 €). Attention at the border the entry tax is 1 €, (refuse to give 10 €).
By bus
- 1 Bus going to Tirana and Durrës – The majority of buses leave from the city's main square with a fountain (called Sheshi Demokracia). This includes buses and vans for Tirana which leave every hour, the trip lasts 2 hours (116 km) and costs 500 lek [2014]. There are also direct buses to Durres (avoiding Tirana), 700 lek.
- 2 Van to Velipojë – Two streets southwest of Rruga studenti, about a 10 minute walk from Sheshi Demokracia, you will find a small station of vans that leave for the coastal village of Velipojë.
- 3 Van to Kelmend and Thethi (To 2 km north of Sheshi Demokracia) – To catch a van for the "Albanian Alps", meeting point for transport to Kelmend and of Thethi.
- 4 Van to Koman

To see
The Rozafa fortress dominates the city, view of the lake, entrance 300 lek. It is located at 2 km from the city towards the lake, it can be reached on foot. Pleasant walk. Black and white photo exhibition of Marubi, portraits, Albanian landscapes, entrance 100 lek. Difficult to reach: rue Muhamet Gjollesha. Ask the locals "Fototeka Marubi". Located in one of the streets in front of the Rozafa hotel.

150 lek. – The museum is housed in a traditional Shkodër house which displays valuable items from all spheres of social life in the region.
- 3 Shkodra Lake – The largest lake in the Balkans. Take a taxi to the village of Shiroke. Otherwise, ask around for the public bus that will take you to the outskirts of town, where you can take a pleasant (5 km) lakeside walk to Shiroke. There is a less frequent bus that goes directly to Shiroke.
- 4 Mes Bridge (Ura e Mesit) (in the village of Mes, 5 kilometers northeast of Shkodër) – Bridge built in XVIIIe century by Kara Mahmud Bushati, the local Ottoman pasha.
- 5 Drisht Castle (Above the modern village of Drisht, at 10 km northeast of Shkodër) – The first traces of fortifications date from the end of the Neolithic period. The current ramparts and towers date from 1396 to 1478.
- 6 Shurdhah Island (Ishulli i Shurdhahit)
- 7 Monuments to the 5 heroes – It was "one of the best examples of socialist-realist sculpture in Albania". Unfortunately, you can't see it anymore except on postcards, as it has been replaced by a soft, contemporary fountain. The site remains a useful point of reference to find your way around. Interestingly, the fountain is surrounded by seats, in the center of a busy roundabout called Sheshi Demokracia (Democracy Square) with no crosswalks! Only in Albania!
