Shoubak or Shawbak is the place in Jordanon which the ruins of the Crusader Castle Montreal stand.

background

At the place of today Shoubak became the crusader castle of the crusaders under King Baldouin of Jerusalem in 1115 Montreal or Mons regalis built. The castle, built on a hill above the old pilgrimage route between Syzria and Arabia, was the first fortress that the Crusader kingdom built beyond the Jordan had been erected.
