The Hill of Crosses seen a little further afield
- Hill of the Cross (Cross Mountain), 15 km on the A12 road towards Riga. For hundreds of years, people have carried crosses on this hill. During the Soviet era, the government rolled the hill smooth and destroyed the crosses three times, but always only people carried new crosses to the scene. Today, there are tens of thousands of crosses on site, and you can buy more from the cross-merchants on site if you want to carry your cross into the pile. You can also get there by bus from the bus station.
