Sidi Bou Said (Arabic سيدي بوسعيد, DMG Sīdī Bū Saʿīd) is a village about 20 km northeast of Tunis. The village is located on the Rock of Carthage on the Gulf of Tunis.
background
The name is an abbreviation of the name of a sacred hermit named Abou Said ibn Khalef ibn Yahia Ettamini el Bejiwho lived here.
In the 16th century, Moors from Spain settled, whose architecture, the Andalusia reminds the artist village to this day. The place was placed under monument protection in 1915.
The special flair of the picturesque place is made up of the white houses with the blue windows, nailed doors and gate bars, which also inspired painters such as August Macke and Paul Klee.

In the street

The panorama from the viewing terraces of the old town is spectacular and extends over the Gulf of Tunis to the Cap Bon peninsula and the mountain massifs.
