The Sierra de Valle Fértil lies in the east of the San Juan Province in the Western Argentina. It is the most southwestern mountain range that clearly belongs to the Sierras Pampeanas can be counted, although there is also in Mendoza still mountain ranges, which are mostly assigned to the Patagonian meseta.

San Agustín is the starting point for tours in the region. It is from San Juan and Villa Unión approached, but has no airport.

The connecting axis is the Ruta Provincial 510, which crosses the region from northwest to southeast.

Hiking and trekking, horse riding, mountaineering and other outdoor activities, as well as water sports in the reservoir near San Agustín, mean that there is hardly any boredom.

The climate is warm and dry, the summers can be very hot (often over 40 degrees), although it cools down significantly at night because of the clear air.
