Sitges is a city on the Costa del Garraf, she belongs to spanish province Barcelona.

background

Sitges is about 35 km southwest of Barcelona. The city lies at the foot of the mountain range Garraf, it is only about 600 m high, but protects against the cold north winds from inland in winter. Thanks to the Mediterranean climate with 300 days of sunshine a year and an average temperature of 18 ° C, Sitges is a popular holiday destination with over 4,500 guest beds.

When the Catalans were allowed to trade directly with America in the 19th century, Sitges was one of the main trading centers. Several years later, merchants who had become rich came back to their homeland, "Los Americanos" had magnificent villas built; the cityscape of Sitges is still shaped by this today. They also had spinning mills and shoe factories built, which helped the city to prosper at that time. The construction of medical baths and the inauguration of the railway line to Barcelona (1888) made Sitges an attractive holiday destination at the end of the 19th century.

Sitges has a number of attractions. This includes primarily the beaches, but also a wide promenade, the narrow streets of the old town and the villas in the modernist style, but this also includes the natural landscapes in the hinterland, and the lively nightlife makes the city attractive for holidaymakers, the city is especially popular with gays as a travel destination.
