La Slovak language is a West Slavic language spoken mainly in Slovakia and Vojvodina. It is widely understood in Czech Republic (la Czech language is closely related); however, a younger generation (born after 1990), in addition to university students, already has comprehension problems.
Pronounced
The Slovak language is pronounced the way it is written (with small differences to make it easier to pronounce). Pronunciation of most letters is the same as in Esperanto, so in particular it is enough to learn the meaning of diacritical marks and a few differences, and an Esperantist can pronounce Slovak quite well.
Accent in the standard language is always in the first syllable. In some regions of Slovakia, however, another position is used, but this is a matter of dialect.
Slovak uses 3 diacritical marks:
- right horn or long sign (´) - it indicates that the letter is pronounced longer; it does not change accent at all
- hack or molsigno (ˇ) - softens the sound of the letter
- hat - it is used only at 1 letter ("ô" - pronounced as "uo")

Clock time
When it comes to clock time, Slovaks often talk about “evening” or “morning” even for the time that is usually referred to as “night”. Thus, if you ask if at the first hour after midnight it is night or morning, everyone answers "night", but can immediately say "At the first hour in the morning". However, everyone will understand if you say "At two o'clock at night".
