• Simpélourd ("Mononk" (My Uncle) party) Saturday 9 October 2021: 18 h - 22 h 15. – The festival originates from the story of a poor cobbler who was regularly cheated on by his wife and who was the subject of much mockery in the 18th century. Stung to the quick, he decided to bring together the main peddlers of this gossip around a meal. Taken aback, they nevertheless presented themselves there and were served a wooden ham. Each year, the Sonégiens commemorate this farce. Simpélourd crosses the city, distributing sweets to children (the carabibis), he is accompanied, in procession, by many folk groups and the giants Dudulle and Josephine, Charlotte, Nénesse. The event ends with a final rondeau and fireworks. Simpélourd then greets the crowd gathered on the Place Verte from the balcony of a house1 where he will soon be replaced by a mannequin who will be burnt on Tuesday in an autodafé. A fair takes place that same weekend in various places in the City. These festivities are for the Sonégiens the occasion of a popular jubilation with a good-natured spirit. (last updated Nov 2016)
