Spakenburg is located in the province Utrecht. Spakenburg used to be a fishing village on the Zuiderzee. It now makes together with the neighborhoods Eemdijk and Zevenhuizen part of the municipality Bunschoten. It is located north of Amersfoort and on the Eemmeer.

Info

Spakenburg was originally a fishing village. Since the closure of the Zuiderzee, the import and export of fish and bread/pastry has gone through Spakenburg. Spakenburg has its own dialect, its own traditional costume and the largest market fleet in the Netherlands. Wooden ships are being refurbished along the Spakenburg shipyard. ⅓ of the Dutch botter fleet is located here. In 2021 Spakenburg has retained its old appearance and traditions and is a popular attraction for tourists.

  • Spakenburg is located on the Eemmeer, one of the peripheral lakes under Flevoland. The village has several ports. The old harbor (around 1200) says it all, it is the oldest, here is also the old botter slope where sailing monuments are still being restored. The second port is the Nieuwe Haven (1887). A third harbor (1970s) is located outside the village. Many water sports activities are organized in this former Zuiderzee place. The DARP competition and the Night of Spakenburg are the best known in the water sports world.
