Spanish Town - The Valley is a city in Virgin Gorda.
background
The main town in the southern quarter of the island with an airport, marina, police, post office and administration is The Valley. It is also referred to as Spanish Town on roughly the same number of maps and in travel guides. Lee Road and Tower Road lead on the western side of the island from the harbor past Little Fort National Park to Trunk Bay Land and the Rhymers Estate. From there it continues south to Spring Bay Land and The Bath. The footpath from the marina to The Bath takes 40 minutes.
The east side of the island can be reached on several narrow cross streets. On the other side of Crab Hill Road is the small airfield. To the south behind the hospital it turns into Church Hill Road and then bends in a very sharp curve to the east into Copper Mine Road.
The gigantic, almost house-sized, rounded rocks that cover the southern tip of the island are famous and have been photographed again and again. There are several national parks there, the best known is "The Bath".
beaches
- Devil's Bay. Devil's Bay has fine sand between the rocks. From the Bath National Park car park, a footpath leads to the bay.
- Spring Bay. Spring Bay is also part of Bath National Park. There is a small, public parking lot there. There are picnic tables and barbecue areas on the beach. The fine sandy bay is overlooked by large rocks.
- The Bath. The Bath consists of large rocks and sand-filled rock caves. You can swim and dive well there. There are colorful wooden crates on the beach, where you can buy souvenirs and T-shirts, and the restaurant and bar take care of your physical well-being.
- Trunk Bay. Trunk Bay is a long, fine sandy beach and is located south of Little Fort National Park between a privately owned plantation and palm trees. Access is therefore only possible by boat or via a poor footpath from Spring Bay.
