Thai or Thai (ภาษา ไทย / paasǎa tai /) is the most widespread and official language of Thailand. The Laotian is closely related to Thai.
pronunciation
Thai is a tonal language, which means that depending on the pitch (mostly monosyllabic) words are pronounced, they have a different meaning. There are 5 different tones: low, medium, high, falling and rising. This is difficult for Europeans to learn, but Thais are used to foreigners mutilating their language and can often recognize the correct meaning of the word from the context.
The written language is difficult to read thanks to 44 consonants and a complicated system of writing pitch and vowels around consonants.
In contrast, the grammar - at least for everyday language - is quite simple. Sentences are simply formed by stringing subject-verb-object, the inflection of words (both declination and conjugation) is unknown.
Vowels
The signs for the vowels are always written around the consonants. The first letter in the alphabet ก (gk) is used here to demonstrate this.

Numbers
The numbers in Thai are fairly regular. Colloquially, "yiî-sìb" (-zwanzig) is shortened to "yiîb" by many speakers, for example "yiîb-saǎm" instead of "yiî-sìb-saǎm" for 23.
Thai has its own number signs, but in practice these have largely been replaced by Arabic numbers. Interestingly, they are often used where there are different entrance fees for Thais and foreigners.
