Stung Treng(Khmer: ស្ទឹងត្រែង) is the capital of the eponymous Cambodian province. The city is located on the Tonlé San River and near the Mekong.

The small town of Stung Treng is primarily used as a transit point towards Laos or towards Banlung.
Otherwise, the city hardly offers many tourist opportunities.

By plane
There is currently no regular air traffic on the airfield.
In the street
The road from Phnom Penh to Stung Treng is tarred, so that it takes about 6 hours by bus for this route. The road to Banlung on the other hand is a clay slope.
By boat
Arrival by ship from Kratie is possible.

The place itself is easy to explore on foot. For a better overview of the beautiful surroundings and excursion points, however, it is recommended to rent a scooter.

- Boat trip on the Mekong - with a little luck you can watch the river dolphins.
- Koh Preah - Island in the Mekong about 30 km south of Stung Treng. Reachable in about an hour by motorcycle or scooter. The ferry costs 5000 kip each way. There is also a small kiosk on the jetty for provisions (13 ° 18'51.8 "N 105 ° 58'07.5" E).
- Abandoned airport - The abandoned airport tower offers a beautiful view of the city and is particularly recommended at sunset. However, be careful when climbing as the railing is missing (13 ° 31'40.2 "N 106 ° 00'37.6" E).
- Stung Treng Market - Local market. The best place in the morning for a good breakfast and fresh fruit, vegetables and baked goods.
- Thala Barivat - Village on the opposite bank of the Mekong. Praeh Ko - remains of small temple ruins from the time of Angkor or the Thalaborivat Pagoda are worth a short visit.
- Sopheakmit waterfall - Mekong waterfall on the Lao-Cambodian border. Can be reached in about an hour (13 ° 57'05.7 "N 105 ° 53'09.7" E).
