Sulaimaniya (Kurdish سلێمانی Silêmanî, arabic:السليمانية, DMG as-Sulaimānīya) is a metropolis in the south of Iraqi Kurdistan (aka Kurdistan Iraq).

background

The population has exploded in recent years. Especially in the years after War of aggression against Iraq there was a massive rural exodus that led to this massive population increase. The built-up area has doubled since 2003.

There are four boroughs: Bayzan, Sharbazher, Tanjaro, and Qaradagh.
