uKhahlamba
The name uKhahlamba means for the border region to Lesotho Barrier of spears, and given the rugged peaks, the name is understandable. This summit region has been registered as since 2000 World Natural Heritage by Unesco. The highest mountain in the area of South Africa is the 3,450 m high Mafadi. It is dominated by the 3,482 m high Thabana Ntlenyanawhich is on the territory of Lesotho lies.
Sani pass
At 2,873 m, the Sani Pass is one of the highest pass roads in Africa. From Himeville, the road is initially quite flat to the Sani Pass Hotel and on to the South African border station, which is still in the valley. This part of the pass road is being expanded and is expected to be completed by the end of 2011[outdated] asphalted. Then a partly narrow, steep and winding gravel road begins, it can only be driven with good all-wheel drive vehicles. The pass is impassable in extremely wet weather. At the top of the pass there is a small restaurant at the Lesotho border station. The pass road is also used by Basothos, some of whom transport their goods by horse.
