Tashkent is the capital and largest city of Uzbekistan, the commercial center of the state.
Understand
Tashkent was an important stop on a trade route (Silk Road) from Asia to Europe. After the Russian Revolution in 1917 many historic buildings were destroyed and later in 1966 a strong earthquake destroyed many building heritages.

Sights of the city: Madras Kukeldash from the 16th century. It originated during Abdullah's reign (1557-1598) and is now overseen by the Mawarannahr Provincial Religious Council. The building is now used as a mosque. Near Tashkent is the tomb of Amir Temur, better known as Tamerlane - once conquered by him territory stretched from India to the Mediterranean Sea.
