The resort Tafí del Valle (about 7,000 inhabitants) is in the west of the Tucuman Province in the north-west Argentina. It is the most visited travel destination in the province and is located in a basin of the Sierra de Aconquijain which the reservoir El Mollar was created.

background

Tafí del Valle is now the most popular resort in the Tucumán Province. The charm of the place derives from its location in a green valley, somewhat reminiscent of the Alps, the reservoir and the menhirs that the natives left here.

getting there

By plane

The nearest airport is in San Miguel de Tucuman.

By bus

The bus company Aconquija connects Tafí del Valle about ten times a day San Miguel de Tucuman and Santa María del Yocavil as Cafayate (partly with a change). Also San Fernando del Valle de Catamarca can be reached directly.

In the street

From San Miguel de Tucumán you drive to Famaillá on the four-lane RN 38, then on the indescribably beautiful RP 307 through a jungle gorge to the west.

mobility

You can get around on foot, even if orientation may not be easy due to the hilly terrain and the very "non-Argentine" irregular road network. The only local buses that run more or less regularly belong to the discotheque La Cañada.

Tourist Attractions

  • Menhir Park, in El Mollar, approx. 3 km southeast of the village. The up to 3 m high menhirs (stone figures in the form of worked columns) were created by the Diaguita natives in the Middle Ages. The park, which was closed for a while due to vandalism, is located on a hill right next to the dam of Lake Mollar.

activities

Hiking, horse riding and mountain biking as well as extreme sports such as paragliding are easily possible in the area. The lake is ideal for swimming, surfing and fishing.
