Tandile is a city in the south of the province Buenos Aires in Argentina. It is best known for its hilly landscape, the Sierra de Tandil, in which there are several strange rock formations.

background
The city was world-famous until the beginning of the 20th century, as a boulder on a nearby hill remained in a movable position on the summit, the so-called Piedra Movediza (movable stone). Despite the tourist success of this natural wonder, the residents were also afraid that it could crash and wreak havoc. In 1912 it actually fell from the summit, but it only rolled a few meters and got caught in a bump on the same hill.
getting there
By plane
By train
The distance Buenos Aires-Tandil has been discontinued until further notice. However, there are plans to reactivate it. The journey via the route to Mar del Plata is not yet worthwhile.
By bus
Tandil is connected to numerous cities in Argentina, which is why most travelers will arrive by bus.
In the street
The best route from Buenos Aires and Mar del Plata it is over Ruta Provincial 2, which is developed like a motorway throughout, to the small town Las Armas. There you have to turn west on Ruta Nacional 226.
mobility
City buses are available.
Tourist Attractions
Tandil has some old buildings in the center that are well worth seeing. The greatest attraction, however, is the mountain landscape in the area, especially the rock El Centinela, a pointed boulder several meters high that stands vertically on a ledge like a soldier (hence the name).
activities
The mountain landscape around Tandil is good for hiking and mountain biking.
