background
Like no other city in the Çukorova, this city at the Cilician Gate can look back on a millennia-long history full of highlights. The birth of Paul or the first meeting of Mark Antony and Cleopatra are to be mentioned here in the first place. Unfortunately, like no other city in Çukorova, Tarsus did not know how to preserve this heritage.

Tourist Attractions
- Cleopatra Gate. The Roman "Cleopatra Gate" (Cleopatra Kapısı) is located on a green traffic island in the main street (Mersin Caddesi). It is supposed to commemorate the meeting of Cleopatra and Mark Antony, but was built about five centuries later.
- St.Paulus fountain. The birthplace of the apostle is said to have stood at the Saint Pauls Fountain (Sempol kuyusu), an ancient draw well, but this is not documented.
- Şelalesi waterfalls. Nice excursion destination for the local population with typical restaurants.
- Historic Haman. A must for everyone who is or would like to become this type of Islamic bathing and physical culture (here without any tourist influence, but also without modern comforts).
