Gunung Galunggung crater near Tasikmalaya
Fishing nets off an island in Lake Lengkong (Situ Lengkong)
  • 16 km west-northwest: Gunung Galunggung (volcano): The parking lot is enclosed 7 ° 15 ′ 28 ″ S108 ° 4 '57 "E.. From there it is only about 100 meters in altitude to the edge of the crater via a staircase. You can walk along the eastern edge of the crater and look down on the green crater lake. You also have a good view to the east in the direction of Tasik and with luck, if no clouds block your view, you also have a good view towards the summit. In the northeast you can descend to the crater lake (with moderate surefootedness this should not be a problem). At the crater lake, volcanism shows itself in green slime, which now and then comes up from the bottom of the lake with a few bubbles. There is a narrow path in the crater to the (modern, simple) mosque. You can get to Cipanas from Tasik by Angkot. From there you have to take the ojek to the parking lot at the crater.
  • 30 km north: Gunung Sawal (1784 m). You can climb on the north side at the village of Tembong (at 930m above sea level) a few km south of Panjalu and the Situ Lengkong (lake). This mountain is rarely climbed. You can find guides in the village. He knows the way and has a very helpful machete here. Few people climb this mountain. You can find inexpensive guides in the village (2013: guide price € 4). Otherwise, the right way will be difficult to find. The summit is a bit overgrown. Therefore, the views are less spectacular than other mountains in the area. On the way, however, you can see untouched nature and many animals, unfortunately also those that you normally don't care about: leeches. You should therefore wear sturdy shoes and anti-leech gaiters and DEET spray would not be bad either, as would plasters, of course. The village of Tembong can be reached via Panjalu (Angkot). You can get an ojek there for the rest of the way.
  • Approx. 30 km north: Situ Lengkong (lake). on the lake is an island with a much-visited pilgrimage site, to which many people from other Indonesian islands also come. Boats drive over. There are numerous tombs and a mosque on the island. There are tons of fruit bats hanging in the trees. Situ Lengkong is easily accessible from Tasik with the Angkot.

Gunung Sawal and Situ Lengkong can be combined in a day trip.

  • 40 km northeast: Gede Astana near the small town of Kawali on the Ciamis - Cirebon road. There are some graves and natural wells from early Muslim times that are highly venerated by many Indonesians.
  • Between Gede Astana and Situ Lengkong are the Curug Tujuh Cibolang waterfalls, which can only be reached by individual transport (e.g. Ojek).
