Route
Only the distances by road are mentioned in the route schedules. The distances you travel when visiting the temple grounds are not included. All distances are measured with Google Earth.
All temples in two walks
With two walks, all the temples of the Old Town can be visited.
| On this walk you will visit the "big three" of Chiang Mai's temples, Wat Phra Singh, Wat Chedi Luang and Wat Chiang Man. These are the temples listed in every Chiang Mai travel guide. The walk starts on the western city canal at the western city gate Suan Dok Gate, the street name is there Arak Road, and the walk ends on that street again. From the starting point it is still a short walk to the first temple, but the starting point is easily recognizable for public transporters if you mention it as a destination. If you're thinking "oh well, leave those first two temples alone", then Wat Phra Singh is also a starting point that every public transporter knows where that is. In total, a distance of 4800 meters is covered, not counting the meters that are covered within the temple complexes.
|
| On this walk you will visit the temples that were not visited in the Grand Tour. Yet the paths cross at some point. You can visit the temples that you then encounter again, or just walk past them. The walk starts at the monument to the Three Kings, a point where you can easily get there by public transport. In total, a distance of 4625 meters is covered, not counting the meters that are traveled within the temple complexes.
|
Other walks
Two other walks are also worth doing, as an alternative to the two earlier walks. In this case, the aim is not to all temples in two walks, but to as many temples as possible in one walk.
| This walk is especially interesting for those staying in the Night Bazar area. Two temples of the "big three" are visited, as well as some temples that are not located in the old city. In total, a distance of 2380 meters is covered, not counting the meters traveled within the temple complexes.
|
| This route goes from North to South on Ratchapakinai Road and Prapkklao Road, with a short stretch on Ratchadamnoen Road to get from one street to the other. Two temples of the "big three" are visited here. In total, a distance of 1925 meters is covered, not counting the meters that are covered within the temple complexes.
