Temse is in East Flanders.
For 150 years, Temse was known for its shipbuilding industry until the company closed the books in 1994. As a souvenir, 1 crane was kept on the site of the Zaat. There are now houses on half of the Zaat. It is very trendy to live there. Temse used to be the property of the Saint Peter's Abbey of Ghent. Temse currently has about 27,000 inhabitants.

On the Wilfordkaai stands the statue of Tuysscher and Azijnzeker. Den Tuyscher is a medieval mock name for a Temsenaar and in particular a man who plays cards for big money. Since many vinegar breweries arose in this region in the eighteenth century, the nickname Azijnzeker was quickly found to replace Tuysscher.
