Tentena is a quiet small town in central Sulawesi. It is located on a lake and is used by many travelers as a stopover between Rantepao (Tana Toraja) and Ampana (Ferry port to the Togian Islands) visited.

getting there

Tentena is inland. Arrival is only possible by bus or by road. The nearest airports are in Poso and Luwu Inank.

  • Out south (Sulawesi Selatan) buses run from Rantepao (13 hours) about Palopo (10 hours) and Pendolo (2 hours.).
  • Out north most buses come from Palu above Poso (2 hours, IDR 40,000). From Poso there is a connection to Ampana (5 hours, IDR 120,000) for the Togian Islands.
  • In the year 2016 Extensive road construction work is in progress on the Pendolo - Poso route, so that the entry and exit to and from Tentena can be significantly delayed due to full closings for the entire hour.

mobility

The city stretches for three kilometers from the bus station to two bridges over the Poso River and from there just under 2 kilometers to the market. The distances can all be covered on foot, but an ojek is more comfortable. From the bridges to the market, e.g. for 5000 IDR. At night, the Ojeks from the bus station into the city charge more.

A scooter can be rented for IDR 100,000 a day for the sights outside the city mentioned below. For the same price you can get a half-day tour with the Ojek (including driver) at the market, 2km west of the city. In the city, the price is higher because drivers are less frustrated with waiting.
