History
On March 21, 1890, the Governor General of Indochina issued a decision to establish Thai Binh province, including Thai Binh and Kien Xuong (separated from Nam Dinh) and Than Khe district (Separated from province hung Yen) then merged into Thai Binh government - then named Thai Ninh government. The provincial capital is located at the capital Kien Xuong, on the south bank of Tra Ly river.
