The city Thimi, also known by its old name Madhyapur, is only about 8 km west of Kathmandu. Most of the inhabitants belong to the Newar tribe. In contrast to the nearby capital, time seems to have stood still here. There are still numerous old houses in the traditional architectural style. Most of life takes place on the street, you can watch potters at work, next door the grain (often wheat) is still threshed by hand, and in some houses you can watch the women cooking and baking through open windows and doors .

Tourist Attractions
Thimi has no sights that deserve special mention. Perhaps the city gate at the southern entrance, the small temples and scattered throughout the city Chorten, or old houses in traditional construction, which are sometimes quite badly gnawed by the ravages of time.

In some of the small shops, marionettes and masks are offered, motifs are mostly based on the Hindu religion.
