Thimphu is the capital of Bhutan.
background
For many centuries, smaller settlements and a dzong existed in the Thimphu Valley since 1216. The actual urban development only began when Thimphu was declared the new capital in 1961. In 1962 the first vehicles appeared and the city slowly began to develop. Numerous projects for further urban development are currently underway. New avenues were created and a park with an open air theater was created around the bell tower in the heart of the city. The government district was greened and is now a very attractive district.
Due to the relatively cold winter and warm and humid summer, the best travel time is September / October and March to May.
