Tindi - Tindi

Tindi is an isolated mountain village in southern Dagestan.

Understand

Tindi is one of the highest settlements in Dagestan and surrounded by some of the tallest mountains and largest glaciers in the Caucasus. It is a very picturesque village with a history dating back centuries, historians still debate how long exactly humans have lived on these mountain slopes.

Orientation

The village is at the foot of the Adallo-Shukhgel-meer mountain (in the Tindi language “Kabala deesa”), on the right bank of the Kila river. The Bogossa mountain range is one of the least accessible in the Caucasus. Glaciers and permanent snow cover several km². The largest massif is Belengi, where the glacier reaches a thickness of 170 m.

The fauna and flora of Bogossa are rich and varied, courtesy of its relative isolation. There are several rare and endangered birds and thistles, as well as the famous bezoar goats. It is a popular destination for climbers and tourists.
