Map of Trikala
- 1 Koursoun mosque. This Turkish mosque dates from the 16th century. It was built by Sinan Pasha, who also designed the Blue Mosque in Istanbul.
- 2 Castle. The Trikala fortress is located in the north of the city on a strategically favorable hillside location. Due to the importance of the fortress, Emperor Justinian ordered a complete renovation in the 6th century AD. The use of stone blocks confirms that it was built on the site of an ancient citadel (acropolis) that was surrounded by walls in the classical period. During the years of the Ottoman occupation, the castle was renovated several times. This Byzantine fortress has a clock tower that offers excellent views of the city, as well as a small photo exhibition showing the history of Trikala.
- 3 Chapel of the Prophet Elias
- 4 Matsopoulou Mill (Μύλος Ματσόπουλου). The old mill and pasta factory became an industrial museum and park.
- 5 Old town. Located west of the city center at the foot of the fortress. A quiet area with winding streets and old houses.
