Trois-Rivières (creole: Twarivyè) is a community in Guadeloupe.

background

The parish of Trois-Rivières was founded in 1640. In 1789 the first general assembly of the elected representatives of Guadeloupe was held here. Several rivers shape the image of the place and give it its name: Rivière de Grande-Anse, Rivière du Petit Carbet and Rivière du Trou au Chien. The early settlers planted cotton, coffee, tobacco, vanilla, sugar cane and, more recently, bananas.

If you look closely, Trois-Rivières is a village that consists of two parts. The much larger district is grouped along the old, winding main road (National Road 1). There are also all important facilities such as the mayor's office, cemetery, church and schools, about 1 km from the coast.

The second, much smaller district is by the sea. There at the sheltered harbor there is a 90 m long landing stage and 180 m quay facilities.

beaches

  • Plage de Grand-Anse. Gray sand beach. The sea is deep there but calm and invites you to swim. Lots of locals come here on weekends.

getting there

In the street

Trois-Rivières is located in the far south of the Basse-Terre part of the island. The main road along the east coast (National Road 1) has been generously expanded in recent years. The last construction phase is the section between Capesterre-Belle-Eau and Trois-Rivières. Shortly before the village, another section towards Gourbeyre and the west coast has already been completed, so that through traffic now passes Trois-Rivières.
