Trás-os-Montes lies in the Norte region in the Northeast Portugal. It is the still common name of a former administrative district, the boundaries of which are still well suited to describe the tourist region. In this travel guide Trás-os-Montes is delimited,
- in the north and in the east through the border with Spain,
- in the south by that Valley of the Rio Douro and
- to the west through the border of the districts of Braga and Vila Real (here closes the tourist region Minho at).
