Ugljan - an island off the coast Croatia, located in the Zadar Archipelago, adjacent to the islands of Pašman, Rivanj and Sestrunj. Its area is 51.05 km² and the length of the coastline is 78.7 km. Administratively, it belongs to the Zadar County. It is separated from the mainland by the Zadar Canal, and it is connected with the island of Pašman by a bridge. It is one of the most densely populated Croatian islands. The island has the following towns: Preko, Poljana, Sutomišćica, Lukoran, Ugljan, Kali, Kukljica. The name of the island may come from oil (olio, croatian ulje) or coal (croatian ugljen).
