Västervik is the capital of the largest municipality in southern Sweden in terms of area. The area of the municipality of Västervik is also often referred to as Tjust. Many clubs have the place name in their historical spelling Westervik in their name.
Västervik is an important tourist destination, especially for Swedes who visit the archipelago.
Västervik is located on a peninsula directly on the Baltic Sea. The city center has only been partially modernized, so that areas with old wooden buildings have been preserved.

By train
Västervik is on the Linköping - Västervik railway line. In summer there is also a museum railway with daily operation, with which the onward journey to Hultfred is possible.

Västervik is located in the area of Kalmar Länstrafik, with this transport association you can travel from all directions.
In addition, lines from Swebus (Kalmar-Stockholm) and Västerviksexpressen serve the city and stops in the municipality. Many of these buses also stop in Nyköping, from where there is a short city bus ride to Stockholm Skavsta Airport.
