Khao Yai National Park is Thailand's first national park established on September 18, 1962. Boonsong Lekakul, a well-known environmentalist, played a major role in the establishment of this national park. This country is the second largest in Thailand with an area of 2168 km² including green forests and grass. The height of this garden is from 400 m to 1000 m above sea level. There are 300 species of plants, 320 species of birds and 67 species of mammals, including Asian black bear, Asian elephant, bison, tiger, gibbon, Indian sambar deer, Indian gill, jackal and boar . The waterfalls have Haew Narok waterfall 80 m. Namtok Sarika is popular with Thais. Recent wildlife studies have shown that some animals, especially tigers, are affected by human activities near the park's center. In 1984 the national park This park is recognized as an ASEAN heritage site, and on July 14, 2005 this garden and Dong Phaya Yen mountain range were recognized by UNESCO as a world heritage site under the name "Dong Phaya Yen–Khao Yai Forest Complex". . The land near the national park has been developed into golf courses and luxury hotels for tourists.
